Criccieth Castle


Perched in an imposing position, the castle is still dominated by the twin-towered gatehouse built by Prince Llywelyn ab Iorwerth ('the Great'). Extended by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd ('the Last'), and later remodelled by Edward I and Edward II. OS map 123/24: SH 500377

On-street parking, toilets, guidebook available, site exhibition and audio-visual presentation.

Adult - £3.00, Concession - £2.60, Family - £8.60
Entry is free for Welsh residents aged 60 and over or 16 and under who have a valid pass. To find out how to get one please go to the free entry scheme page.

We welcome assistance dogs at our sites. From April 2009, dogs on leads will also be welcome at some of our sites. Please see 'dogs' page (on the left) for more information.

Opening Times: 
01.11.09 - 26.03.10: Friday and Saturday 9.30 - 16.00 , Sunday 11.00 - 16.00 . Open site at all other times.
27.03.10 - 31.10.10: Monday - Sunday 10.00 - 17.00
01.11.10 - 31.03.11: Friday and Saturday 9.30 - 16.00 , Sunday 11.00 - 16.00 . Open site at all other times.

Further Information:

Open sites are unstaffed and are open to the public with no admission charge at all reasonable times, usually between 10.00 and 16.00 daily.

Most sites are closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and 1 January. Full details are available from Cadw Site Operations Unit, tel. 01443 336000. Last admission to this site is thirty minutes before closing.
